Steroid Compounds Isolation from Carthamus tinctorius Linn as Antimalarial

Carthamus tinctorius Linn, also known as safflower, is a plant with the potential of being used in production antimalarial drugs. The purpose this study was to isolate and identify steroid compounds safflower determine its activity vitro. isolation process conducted through extraction chromatography methods. Then, characterization isolated spectroscopic techniques which include Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), NMR 1-D (1H 13C-NMR), 2-D (HMQC, HMBC, H-H COZY) well comparing data existing literatures. In addition, tests were variations concentrations (10, 1, 0.1, 0.01, 0.001 μg/mL) against 3D7 strain Plasmodium falciparum. Based on FT-IR data, from safflowers might be stigmasterols. isolates had -OH functional group region 3431 cm-1, C-O 1053 Csp3-H regions 2960, 2934, 2865 cm-1. showed presence 29 carbon atoms, while protons 48 number. Furthermore, IC50 value compound 34.03 μg/mL percentage inhibition 43.92% growth P. Therefore, it classified inactive agent inhibiting malaria parasites, however, could marker C. Linn extract.
